Rare Eye Colors

Cheers to rare eye colors! Especially green eyes (cause that's me). Someone recently sent me this article about rare eye colors and it sparked an interest. What are the rarest eye colors among humans? According to this site, the least common eye colors are green, violet, and red. I always knew green eyes weren't as common as brown and blue, but I never really considered them to be a "rare" eye color. After reading this article, it was really interesting to read that only two percent of the world's population has green eyes. I feel special! Another interesting point to read was that green eyes typically originate from people who have roots in Northern Europe. This makes sense, because my grandfather whose family was from Austria/Hungary, had green eyes. The eye color was then passed on to my mom, and then to me. It's pretty neat that the trait has been passed on because my grandmother has brown eyes, which is commonly the dominant eye color gene.

Violet eyes are a mix of blue and red. They are usually found in albinos and if not, then it is most likely due to a mutation.

Finally, red eyes are the rarest eye color. This eye color is mainly found in albinos. It is due to blood leaking into the iris.

So if you have one of these eye colors, once again, cheers to us!

I was not even aware that violet eyes was a real possibility. Now it is my goal to find a person with red eyes and one with violet eyes. I must say that I was surprised to find out that green eyes was less common than blue eyes, I feel like I see more people with green eyes than blues eyes on a daily basis, so I just assumed they were more common. I had always heard that green eyes were dominant over blue eyes but it seems that the data is conflicting on this statement. This article states that blue eyes are rarer than green eyes, but your article says the opposite. I guess it just depends on what eye color children end up with because sometimes it is left up to chance.

I was unaware of all of these possible eye colors. My eye color is interesting as I was born with eyes that were so black that doctors could not tell whether my pupils were dilated or not. They have since faded to a very dark brown.

Very cool! If you are looking to receive a higher grade, do not wait until the last 3 days of the marking period to create 4 posts. People obviously enjoy reading your posts (judging by the comments on them-especially the "What is Pretty" post) so create posts more frequently. I am sure others will appreciate this!

If you are trying for an A in this final mark period, you need to create more than 1 post a week and comment more than three times a week. Also, add depth to your posts by doing more than merely summarizing/ reporting on your article, study, or source. You should tie in class material and share personal experiences. Keep picking those interesting topics that people want to read about! You've been very good at this. Good luck!
