STAT 401, Section 1: Experimental Methods

This course introduces students to basic concepts in probability and statistics. Topics covered include descriptive statistics, elementary probability, probability distributions, estimation of parameters, confidence intervals, tests of hypotheses, analysis of variance, and linear regression. Applications to a variety of engineering and scientific fields will be emphasized.

Throughout the semester, we will monitor The Centre Daily Times and The New York Times for articles related to the course. The class may work through the statistical information in such articles so as to relate them to the subject of the course and to our everyday lives.
