This course provides an introduction to mathematical statistics, covering the
fundamentals of statistical inference. The topics covered will include: sufficiency,
parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, non-parametric statistical methods,
regression analysis, analysis of variance, chi-square tests, subjective probability,
Bayesian estimation, best critical regions, and likelihood ratio tests.
During the course, we will monitor the
New York Times and
Centre Daily Times
newspapers for articles involving mathematical statistics. We will study the
statistical information in such articles and relate them to the subject of the
course and to everyday life and experiences.
