Ying Liu received a Ph. D. in Physics from University of Minnesota in 1991, a M. S. in Physics at Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, in 1984, and a B. S. in Physics from Peking University, Beijing, in 1982. He joined the faculty of Department of Physics, Pennsylvania State University in 1994 after spending three years at University of Colorado in Boulder as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, became a full professor in 2005. He received a Career award from NSF and a Young Scientist award in China, and is a Chang Jiang visiting professor at Zhejiang University. He is a fellow of American Physical Society.
